Nestled amidst the serene coastal town of Sayulita, Mexico, lies a sanctuary crafted for the revival of the body and the enlightenment of the mind. I had the privilege of exploring this oasis, a wellness retreat that promises invigoration through a blend of ancient practices and modern indulgences. It was here in this idyllic setting that I, Travis Lane, embarked on a life-altering excursion—a spiritual sojourn delivered with potent medicines.
The Ebb and Flow of Psychedelic Ceremonies
The psychedelic ceremonies were the heart of my stay. I approached the first ceremony with the intention of having an ego death and being reborn. Raising the hair follicles on the volunteers’ arms and necks, the lesson was clear: "Be careful what intentions you wish for." The experience took me to places so deep and dark I confronted the very fibers of my being. An 8-hour journey through death, hell, purgatory, and then the deepest, most tearful grace of an angelic encounter. It was a tough test, navigated carefully, until the cosmos granted permission to return to the earthly peace of the shore that was the resort.
Contrast was the second ceremony, where my focus was set on intentions with the softness and colors of peace, love, and happiness. With another significant dose of the medicine, I was swept into the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. It was unparalleled—the most beautiful experience of my life in its purest form, a sacred conversation with the universe told through the language of the soul and body.
A Harmonious Melody of Treatments and Activities
Each morning dawned with meditation and gentle yoga, where breath and movement came together under the watchful eye of the early sun. It was whale season in the bay of Mexico too, and my mornings consisted of being grateful for the opportunity to watch the whales during their annual migration.
The massage therapists were tender and gave me three massages during the 7-day retreat. They untangled the knots of daily life and rejuvenated my weary muscles for the days ahead.
To eat at the retreat was to feast with the chef—a gourmet on site. His food was proof that nourishment is more than just sustenance. Every meal was a flavor explosion, locally sourced and beautifully presented.
The retreat included an experience that pushed my physical and mental limits—the ice bath. I, Travis Lane, was submerged in ice-cold water for 10 minutes and cried the entire time—not just from the cold but from releasing years of pent-up emotions and stress. It was a crystal moment of vulnerability where every drop of water seemed to remove years of strain and leave me feeling pure and strong.
The warmth came through horseback riding in the jungle and on the beach, and snorkeling in the ocean. It was a reminder of the unspoken and grounding connections we all are.
The Culmination of a Transformative Retreat
Engaged with nature, mind, and spirit, the transformation was real. Sayulita’s wellness retreat wrote a chapter in my life story, a spiritual awakening marked by the realization of the many layers of human consciousness. In this liminal space, between waves and wisdom, I found pieces of the person I used to be and glimpses of the person I’m becoming. I also became closer to God than ever before.
I stayed in Mexico a few extra days to do some extra exploring—I returned to a home within myself I had forgotten over the years—with an appreciation, and a rebooted soul ready to play again in the game of life.
Reflecting on my journey and the impact it’s had on me, I want to recommend Sayulita’s wellness retreat to family and friends. It’s not for the faint of heart, but I believe everyone should "die before they die". The entire experience, is for anyone looking to go deep into their soul and heal from the inside out. It’s an escape from daily life and a way to find self-discovery, with the healing powers of nature and guided spiritual practices.
